Fortum’s vision is to be the forerunner in clean energy. We provide our customers with electricity, heat and cooling as well as other energy solutions that improve present and future life. Totally 64% of our electricity generation is CO2 free. Our main markets are the Nordic and the Baltic countries, Russia, Poland and India as well as energy solutions globally.

Fortum has a long experience in utilizing biomass in energy production. The biomass use in 2015 was totally 5,1 TWh (terawatt-hours). This includes both forest and agriculture biomass. Fourth of our heat production in based on biomass (in EU countries). Besides this, we produce bio-oil, called Fortum Otso®, which is produced from wood-based raw materials like forest residues, wood chips and sawdust. The bio-oil plant is integrated with Fortum´s CHP plant in Joensuu, Finland. The annual production is 50,000 tonnes of bio-oil.
